All Positions Techniques
Explore all core positions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, from guard play to dominant top control.
Positions are the map of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Before chasing submissions, learn where you are, what each player can control, and which direction improves your situation.
Use this category to study the major positional families: guard, top control, bottom recovery, back control, and standing exchanges. A strong positional understanding makes every technique easier to choose because you can recognize whether you should stabilize, advance, recover, or attack.
Good positional training starts with three questions:
- What controls keep me safe here?
- What does my opponent need to progress?
- Which exit or upgrade is highest percentage from this alignment?
Focus on posture, base, frames, grips, and hip position before adding speed. Clean positions create clean transitions.
